MyClippy setup and everyday usage guide

Before you start

You need an Android phone and at least one supported computer, or a Mac and a Windows computer. Availability and device compatibility for the Android test are determined by Google Play.

Use a private network where you trust every participant. This pilot automatically admits reachable MyClippy installations, including ones that are not yours. It does not isolate devices by account or require approval. Do not use it on public, office-shared or guest Wi-Fi with people you do not trust. Avoid passwords, payment details and other secrets while sharing is enabled.

Install or update on Mac

Get the current DMG from Downloads. This pilot is ad-hoc signed and is not Apple-notarized, so macOS may block its first launch. Moving it into Applications does not remove that warning.

1. Quit an older MyClippy instance before updating. Open the downloaded DMG and drag MyClippy onto the Applications shortcut. When updating, replace the older app.
2. Open MyClippy from Applications, then eject the mounted disk image. Use its menu-bar icon to open the clipboard panel.
3. If macOS blocks launch, choose Done, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway for MyClippy, if offered. Confirm only if you trust the downloaded pilot.
4. The Downloads page also links to Sentinel’s official project. Its app-specific unquarantine action is an alternative: select MyClippy in Applications. It removes quarantine for that app; it does not sign or notarize it. Do not disable Gatekeeper globally.
5. Allow local-network access if macOS asks. Keep automatic sharing of Mac copies enabled if you want new copies sent to the other devices.

Install or update on Windows

The download contains an unsigned setup EXE inside a ZIP. Security warnings may still appear. An installer is not a guarantee of publisher verification.

1. Quit the running MyClippy from its system-tray menu before installing an update.
2. Download the current Windows ZIP, choose Extract All, and run the extracted setup EXE. Do not run setup from inside the ZIP.
3. If SmartScreen offers More info → Run anyway, first verify the download came from getmyclippy.com and decide whether you trust this pilot. Keep Defender enabled. If organizational policy blocks it, do not bypass that policy.
4. Finish setup and open MyClippy from Start. Installation is for your Windows account and does not require running the app as administrator.
5. If Windows asks about network access, allow MyClippy on your trusted private network. Keep the app running in the tray. Check that automatic sharing is enabled in Settings.

Install Android through your test invitation

Use the Google account that was added to the test. A testing link is not a public invitation: an account outside the tester list may see an unavailable page.

1. Open the invitation, opt into the appropriate test, and install MyClippy through Google Play with that same account.
2. If moving from internal to closed testing, leave the internal test first, then opt into the closed test using the new invitation.
3. Open MyClippy and complete the welcome flow. Allow notifications and local-network access when requested so discovery and syncing can run.
4. For automatic Android copies, tap Set up automatic copy. Read the in-app disclosure, agree if you want this feature, then enable MyClippy in Android Accessibility settings and return to the app. Both in-app consent and the system setting are needed. What this permission does.
5. You can keep your current keyboard. Automatic copy is experimental and depends on the source app and phone; verify the apps you actually use.

Connect two or three devices

Open MyClippy on the devices and wait until they appear in Connected devices. Discovery is automatic; do not create a group or enter a relay URL. Keep at least one desktop app running and all participating devices reachable on the same private network.

A guest network, client isolation, VPN or firewall can prevent local connections even when the Wi-Fi name looks the same. A connected label confirms discovery, not that Android’s automatic-copy permission is working. If an unexpected device appears, pause sharing and move to a network you trust.

Check your first copy in both directions

Use harmless, distinct text so you can tell a new transfer from an old clipboard value. When connected and syncing, incoming text is placed on the receiving device’s clipboard; you paste it normally into another app.

1. On the Mac or Windows PC, copy “Hello from my computer”. On Android, open a text field and paste.
2. On Android, copy “Hello from my phone” in an app you use. Paste it into a text field on the computer.
3. If you use all three platforms, repeat from each device and paste on both of the others.
4. Try a link and a multiline message. Keep system date and time automatic and wait for discovery to finish after restarting a device.

Use MyClippy day to day

Copy and paste as usual while sync and automatic sharing are enabled. The pilot supports plain text and links, up to 32,768 UTF-8 bytes per clip. Emoji and some scripts use multiple bytes per character. Images, files and rich formatting are not transferred.

Recent clips are a session convenience, not a permanent backup. Use a clip’s Copy action to put it back on that device’s clipboard. Do not rely on history surviving app exits or restarts.

On Android, Send text or clipboard lets you enter text or send the current clipboard while the app is open. You can also share text to MyClippy through Android’s Share menu, then confirm Send text. This provides an explicit workflow if you do not enable automatic copy.

Pause sync stops sharing on that device. Resume it when you want to reconnect, then copy fresh text. Do not expect copies made while paused to replay. The Android notification indicates the ongoing sync service; its Stop action stops that service. Open the app to resume if needed.

When a device is missing

Check that every app is open, syncing is resumed and all devices are on the same trusted network. Allow local-network access and private-network firewall access to MyClippy. Avoid switching off the firewall entirely.

Open the Android app once after setup or a restart and wait for Connected before copying. A device that stops refreshing its connection is removed from the peer list after approximately 20 seconds. Sleep, loss of Wi-Fi or a frozen device can cause this.

Check whether a VPN, guest Wi-Fi or router client-isolation setting is separating the devices. Reopen the apps after reconnecting. The Android emulator can have different network behavior from a real phone; the emulator is not a supported substitute for confirming physical-device reliability.

When Android receives but does not send

First confirm both automatic-copy consent inside MyClippy and the MyClippy Accessibility service are enabled. The system permission alone is not enough. Copy a new harmless sentence; enabling the feature does not promise to send an earlier copy.

Try Send text or clipboard while MyClippy is open. If that works but copying in another app does not, the problem may be automatic capture for that app rather than the network. Record which source app and Android version you used. The troubleshooting guide lists symptoms and fixes.

MyClippy skips clips marked sensitive, but other apps do not reliably mark all sensitive text. Password fields, non-text clips and oversized content should not be used to check normal copying. Never send a real secret as a test.

When text is delayed, missing or out of order

Verify automatic date and time on every device. Clock differences can affect ordering and acceptance in the current pilot. Wait until devices are connected, then copy a new, distinct sentence.

The first copy during Android reboot/discovery can be missed. Long background/Doze periods and some manufacturer battery restrictions may interrupt operation. Reopen MyClippy and retry after it connects; do not assume it can always recover every copy.

Android has a short, bounded retry queue, not unlimited offline storage. Keep your original text until you have pasted it successfully. If several devices copy at nearly the same time, verify the final clipboard before using it.

Pause, remove data or uninstall

Pause sync on each device where you want sharing stopped. Disable Android automatic copy or its Accessibility service when you no longer want background capture. Quitting a desktop app stops its participation; another running desktop may continue hosting the other devices.

On Android, Settings and help → Privacy & data → Clear local data resets the app’s private data and stops sharing. You can also use Android’s app storage settings. This cannot retract text already delivered to another device.

Uninstall Windows through Settings → Apps → Installed apps. On Mac, quit MyClippy before moving it from Applications to the Trash. Clear system clipboards, clipboard-manager history and text pasted into other apps separately. Read the Privacy policy and Data deletion pages for retention details.

Report a problem

Email intelligentiastudios@gmail.com with the platform versions, MyClippy version or installer filename, source and destination devices, source app, and whether each device appeared connected. Include simple steps and a harmless sample that reproduces the issue.

Mention whether it happened after sleep, reboot, Wi-Fi changes or an update. Crop screenshots to remove personal content. Do not send clipboard secrets, account passwords, pairing credentials or private conversations.
